前言/Foreword

自从摄影机发明起，人类对于图像生成方式的讨论就从未停息过。今天，随着摄影、数字媒介乃至人工智能的发展，图像的生产变得前所未有地迅速和便捷。也正是在这样的时代背景下，重新回到绘画，回到画家与画布之间漫长而具体的工作过程，便有了新的意义。“笔下传薪”由此出发，希望通过五位艺术家的创作，重新思考具象油画在当下所承载的价值。

Since the invention of photography, discussions about how images are produced have never ceased. Today, with the development of photography, digital media, and artificial intelligence, images can be produced with unprecedented speed and ease. Against this backdrop, returning to painting—and to the prolonged and tangible process of working between painter and canvas—seems to take on renewed significance. Passing the Torch Through the Brush begins from this point, bringing together the practices of five artists to reconsider the value and relevance of figurative oil painting today.

本次展览汇集杨飞云、张立农、张义波、朱春林和常磊五位当代具象油画领域深具代表性的画家，并特别将戴泽先生的《香山秋天》纳入展览叙事之中。几代艺术家的作品在同一空间相遇，使“传承”不再只是时间上的前后关系，而成为一种持续发生的观看、学习与回应。对于传统的延续，也并不意味着重复既有的绘画方式。不同的生活经验、观看习惯和艺术思考，使五位艺术家分别从人物、风景、日常经验与绘画语言自身出发，形成各具面貌的创作路径。笔触留下画笔的运动轨迹，色彩体现观看中的视觉判断，光影则连接着艺术家与环境之间的时间经验。具象绘画所呈现的，并不仅是一个对象的形貌，更是艺术家如何感受、理解并重新组织眼前世界的过程。也正是在这些缓慢而细微的选择之中，绘画获得了无法被简单复制的个人性与生命感。

The exhibition presents works by five contemporary artists who have long devoted themselves to oil painting: Yang Feiyun, Zhang Linong, Zhang Yibo, Zhu Chunlin and Chang Lei. It also incorporates Dai Ze’s Landscape painting Xiangshan in the Autumn Season into the exhibition narrative. By bringing works by artists of different generations into the same space, “inheritance” becomes more than a chronological relationship between predecessors and successors; it emerges instead as an ongoing process of looking, learning, and responding.

The continuation of tradition does not mean the repetition of established modes of painting. Different life experiences, ways of seeing, and artistic reflections have led these five artists to develop distinctive approaches through portraiture, landscape, everyday experience, and explorations of the language of painting itself. Brushstrokes preserve traces of the movement of the hand; color embodies visual judgments made through observation; and light and shadow connect the artist with the temporal experience of the surrounding environment. What figurative painting presents, therefore, is not merely the appearance of an object, but the process through which an artist perceives, understands, and reorganizes the world before them. It is precisely through these slow and subtle choices that painting acquires an individuality and vitality that cannot simply be replicated.

He Xiangning Art Museum has long been committed to engaging with outstanding artistic practices in contemporary China and to providing a platform for their presentation and study. Shenzhen is a city defined by constant renewal, speed, and efficiency. By presenting Passing the Torch Through the Brush here, the exhibition also seeks to momentarily shift our habitual mode of rapidly browsing images. It invites viewers to pause before the canvas and, through every brushstroke and layer of color, experience how artists of different generations respond to painting in their own ways, allowing an artistic tradition sustained for nearly a century to continue growing anew today.

戴泽 Dai Ze（1922—2023）

四川云阳人，当代著名画家，徐悲鸿重要的弟子，新中国美术教育奠基人，中国第二代油画家代表人物，中央美术学院奠基人之一，中国美术家协会第一批会员，徐悲鸿教育学派代表人物。

Born in Yunyang, Sichuan Province, was a renowned contemporary Chinese painter and an important student of Xu Beihong. He was a pioneering figure in art education in the People’s Republic of China, a representative of the second generation of Chinese oil painters, and one of the founding figures of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He was also among the first members of the China Artists Association and a representative figure of the Xu Beihong school of art education.

杨飞云 Yang Feiyun

中国艺术研究院油画院名誉院长，博士生导师。中国美术家协会理事，中国美术家协会油画艺委会名誉主任，中国油画学会理事，中央美术学院客座教授，意大利佛罗伦萨造型艺术研究院通讯院士，俄罗斯列宾美术学院客座教授，第十一届、第十二届、第十三届全国人大代表。

Honorary President of the Oil Painting Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts and doctoral supervisor. He is a Council Member of the China Artists Association, Honorary Director of the Oil Painting Art Committee of the China Artists Association, Council Member of the Chinese Oil Painting Society, and Visiting Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is also a Corresponding Academician of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, and a Visiting Professor at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Russia. He served as a deputy to the 11th, 12th, and 13th National People’s Congresses.

张立农 Zhang Linong

河北美术馆（河北画院）原馆长（原院长）、中国美术家协会会员、中国油画学会理事、中国艺术研究院油画院课题组研究员、中国文化艺术促进会美术馆工作委员会副主任、文旅部优秀专家、河北省优秀专家。

Former Director of Hebei Art Museum and former President of Hebei Academy of Fine Arts; Member of the China Artists Association; Council Member of the Chinese Oil Painting Society; Researcher at the Oil Painting Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts; Deputy Director of the Art Museum Committee of the Chinese Association for Promotion of Culture and Art; recognized as an Outstanding Expert by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and as an Outstanding Expert under the Administration of Hebei Province.

张义波 Zhang Yibo

中央美术学院油画系教授，博士研究生导师，中国美术家协会国家重大主题美术创作艺委会委员，中国美术馆展览与征集委员会委员。2008年荣获中华人民共和国文化部特别嘉奖。2021年荣获中央美术学院第二届《徐悲鸿奖》，2023年荣获《首届世界华人美术金笔奖》，2024年荣获第四届中国美术奖。

Professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Oil Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts; Member of the Art Committee for Major National Thematic Art Creation of the China Artists Association; and Member of the Exhibition and Collection Committee of the National Art Museum of China. In 2008, Zhang received a Special Commendation from the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China. He was awarded the second Xu Beihong Award by the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2021, the inaugural World Chinese Art Golden Brush Award in 2023, and the Fourth China Fine Arts Award in 2024.

1972年生于安徽，中国艺术研究院油画院副院长、学术委员会秘书长、一级美术师，中国艺术研究院研究生院硕士、博士研究生导师。

Born in Anhui Province in 1972. Chang Lei is Vice President of the Oil Painting Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, Secretary-General of its Academic Committee, and a National First-Class Artist. He is also a supervisor of master’s and doctoral students at the Graduate School of the Chinese National Academy of Arts.
